USCGA Vessel Safety Checks – June 4 (free!)

Are you ready for boating season? Is your boat?

We’re pleased to announce that the US Coast Guard Auxiliary will be on Duck Lake offering free vessel safety checks on Saturday, June 4 at the island near the zoo canal.

Here’s the deal:

  1. You must SIGN UP BELOW to participate. Check the schedule to see available times (first come, first served).
  2. We will have 3 inspectors for 3 hours (9am – Noon)
  3. Each inspection takes 15 minutes
  4. Inspections will be performed from pontoon boats moored at Dizzleville (Kevin Schons’ island at the North end of the lake, at the mouth of the canal leading to the zoo).
  5. Paddle Smart stickers will be available (for all small kayaks, row boats, peddle boats, etc.).
  6. Follow this link for detailed USCG information on Vessel Safety Checks.

This is not required and no citations will be issued for boats that do not pass inspection.  The objective is to educate folks and provide guidance on how you can improve safety on your vessel (and who does’t want that?) These inspections are a courtesy service and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to take advantage of it.

Spread the word! There are limited spots available, but if there’s a lot of interest we will schedule another inspection day. Please don’t forget to thank the volunteers from the USCGA.
