  1. Just want to know if duck hunting is legal on the lake, gunshots started this morning around 7 :00am and still going on 9:15. It’s very annoying to be woken up that early

    • Wanda,
a firearm can not be discharged within a 450 foot radius of a home that is not owned or rented by the hunter. Or he must have permission of the home owner. ie. this applies to adjacent neighbors homes as well.
But think about it. We have so many geese and ducks that these hunter may be helping Duck Lake and you.

  2. Maybe this was asked in the past, but being new to the lake, I am having a lot of lake grass and muck floating up our beach. I have wheelbarrows full after a weekend of boating on the lake and it washing ashore and it is never ending. I’m afraid of what is ahead if we will see more with the aeration. How do others dispose of this stuff? Is there anywhere other than yard bags that this stuff can be disposed in?

    • Hi Leo,

I am afraid that what you are seeing is the direct need for the aeration system. All of the boats on a busy weekend are chopping up the weeds and stirring up the muck, and it has no where else to go but ashore, or float to the bottom and become more muck. While I cannot promise an immediate decline in this issue once the system is turned on, I can commit to you that this is exactly what we are looking to remedy. The aeration system will gradually eliminate muck through natural enzymes that will “eat” the muck turning it into water and Co2. This in turn will start to eliminate the habitat of all the nasty weeds that grow and then wash up on your shore. As far as disposing of them, some do exactly what you do, and others have started compost piles, or allow the material to dry and then burn with other lawn debris.

I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any other questions.

  3. Our Blue bottom and White top part, Paddle Boat was stolen from our dock some time on Monday night or very early yest, Tues. When we looked out at 7:30 am this morning it was gone. It did not just break away as we had 2 mooring lines with clamps. So someone pulled off the cover, left it in the water and took the boat. But if anyone see an extra paddle boat near their property or floating in the lake, please contact us at 248-889-1442. There were also two large exercise balls that we used to hold the cover up if it rained, so no water would collect in wells of boat, that may have floated away. This happened in Little Duck across from Vero drive, so watch your belongings.

  4. does anyone know if there are fireworks on Duck Lake Sunday or Monday ?

  5. I live on the bay close to the pump and it is much quieter. The low hum is music to my ears! We’ve just been here for a year or so, so not sure who to thank for working on this, but thanks to whoever it was. We watched the crews coming and going all summer, so it must have been quite an undertaking.

    • Hi Bruce and Denise,

Thank you for asking who to thank! I am very glad that you are happy with the result, as this was our goal from day 1. We still have some clean up work and some property to restore, but that too will be completed shortly. Many times people just take for granted that stuff gets done. However, I would like to take a few seconds to give a big JOB WELL DONE to Ole Anderson. It is because of Ole Ansderon and his dedication and watchful eye over this whole process from start to finish that we were able to accomplish this. I know it seemed like it took a long time to get the well fixed, and the pump back to normal, but believe me when I say, that we may still be at ground zero if Ole hadn’t stepped in took the bull by the horns. He was able to direct the WRC in directions they would have spent months exploring, while dodging pitfalls that could have caused even more delays. We did hit a few new and unforeseen ones, but all and all it is nothing but pure determination and follow up from Ole. Due to this we have an operational pump for the first time in 3 years for the fall! No need to take the boats out early, the lake will be full.

I would be remiss if I also didn’t take a second to thank a few extras that were willing to step in and help when needed. Mike Ricard, and Matt Robert both chipped in and helped when and where they could. Should it be attending meetings, measuring the water level at the dam, cleaning up trash from around the dam site, or just reporting activity at the well as they drove by, they contributed as well.

These are the ones to thank and I encourage everyone to take a second to do so if you can.

      • Just a heads up regarding the two NO WAKE buoys in the first canal heading to the zoo: l am no longer able to remove them, store them off season, or install them in the springtime.
Thanks for the ride. It’s been a blast!

        • Hello Anonymous,,

I just wanted to say thank you very much for handling these buoys for Duck Lake. We have close to 48 buoys on this lake and it is not an easy job to take them in and out. Your contribution was appreciated, and I wish I knew who you were so I could thank you by name, but #anonymous. We will review this at our September meeting and see if we can get someone that would be willing to help take on this task moving forward.

I am glad you enjoyed the ride. Safe travels,

  6. The motor on the pump is gone. Are they working on the motor again?

  7. The lake level augmentation well pump motor is fixed and running, much quieter than before.

  8. Sounds Great!!! I hope so also.

  9. FYI….We live next to Axford Acres park and they started today with site construction of aeration system. I talked to the workers and they said a wall will be built around the compressor so we shouldn’t hear anything. Sure hope not!

    • We were told by the contractor last year that the compressors should be no louder than an air conditioner compressor most homes have.

  10. Have the compressor locations for the aeration system been finalized? When the layout was published on the website, a compressor was not slated to go at the Davista boat launch. Has this changed? I live directly across from the launch and this would place it approximately 100 feet from my front door. My only concern is the noise level that it will create. I have lived on the lake since 1959 a truly do cherish the peace and quite.
