  1. Still no compressors. So what is the problem? . Does DTE need to be flooded with complaints? Shallow parts of the lake will begin freezing this weekend

    • No problem, just waiting in line. DTE is due to be out next week. Lake Savors has committed to having all of the compressors on by weeks end. They will have two on the same day DTE installs. If there can be a silver lining in all of this, Lake Savors had experimented with a different enclosure that would go over the compressors once installed. The new version is double insulated and had shown to reduce the noise of the compressor (which is already really quite) by 5-10% more. Due to the delays, all of Duck Lake’s boxes have already been updated in the shop and will be ready to install along with the compressors.

I know that this has been a LONG LONG road, but hang on just a few more weeks and we shall finally see some bubbles (fingers crossed) if only for a few days.

      • In the spring time, do we have to wait till the fish hatch, or will we have bubbles right when the ice thaws?

        • Hi Raymond,

Come April 1st the system turns on and we have bubbles. The fish hatch, May 1st through Mid June, was only a factor should equipment had to have been installed in the spring. As all of the equipment is already in the water, this won’t have an impact any longer. They DEQ does this just to make sure the fish beds are not disturbed when running lines and doing other work along the shore lines.

I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving!

  2. Is the blinking red buoy light in South Bay scheduled to be turned off?

  3. Any one know the status on the aeration? I saw the lines go in two weeks ago but nothing since. We still waiting on DTE to run power?

    • Hi Danny,

Sorry for the delayed response. You are correct on DTE. They will only come out to install the power once EVERY site has been inspected and has passed. As of today we had 6 out of 7 green lighted, with one additional left to be re-inspected. Once this final re-inspection is done, DTE will schedule a date for install. After that Lake Savors will then bring in the compressors. They have not set any compressors yet, as they want to limit any potential vandalism or other issues that can arise from just sitting there. Once the power is on, they will install the compressors and the surrounding enclosures, as well as complete any restorative work that would need to be touched up from the install work, to insure everything was left as found.

Also, Lake Savors has been attending our monthly meetings for the last three months, and will continue to do so until the system is fully functional. They present first thing each meeting, in power point, and provide all of the latest updates, setbacks, and time lines. All of this is FYI for anyone interested in wanting regular updates on the progress of the install.

      • Thanks for the detailed update Ryan. When the compressors are installed and fired up to test the system, will any muck digesting bacteria (MD pellets) be added then or will that wait for the spring start up? Thanks again!

        • Hi Bill,

The short answer is “maybe”. The enzymes that they would add to the water are temperature sensitive. If the water is too cold when the compressors fire up, they will wait until next year to do any bio-blasts to insure we get a good response, and to insure we get a good return on the cost. If the water is still within range, then they will treat as much as they can to help get a jump start for next year.

We will know more once the power has been installed as to what our timeline will look like and what our water temp will be when the bubbles start a flowing.

  4. Carp guys, I did some additional checking.
In 2008, there was a “safety zone” for all weapons including archery. I have an email from the DNR web. site.
But if you look at the 2018 DNR site under archery changes/highlights. The rules have changed. When did they changed? I don’t know.
    Good carp shooting.

  5. I just checked the DNR website for the upcoming deer bow season.
I was either incorrect earlier or the rules have changed. THERE IS NO 450 FOOT SAFETY ZONE FOR ARCHERY.
Therefore the carp shooters can hunt carp along the shorelines of Duck Lake. Sorry for any grief this may have caused the carp shooters.

  6. Yeah, they are doing the bubblers!

  7. I found a license plate at the Davista boat launch a few days ago. If it is yours, please identify your plate number.

  8. Not sure who to direct this to>>>>Just drove by the Davista boat launch and looks like a delivery of aeration parts were just dropped at the street. Looks like a lot of money sitting out in the open waiting to be stolen !

    • Hi Bruce,

All of the tubing for the system was delivered to three different sites around the lake. The tubing is all on pallets and wrapped up to try to discourage anyone from “playing” with it. The tubing is quite heavy and had to be off loaded with a forklift. We tried to put all of the tubing behind locked fences. Lake Savors, is going to be out this week to start installing all of that tubing. We are still on plan to have the system turned on in the big bodies of water (Big Duck, Middle Duck, and Little Duck) on October 10th. Pretty exciting to finally see our system showing up!

  9. Trying to coordinate when to take Boat out. Will the lake level be lowered earlier this year like last year.
    Thx

    • The lake level should be maintained at about what it is now for another month at which time they will slowly start to lower it 6″ to the winter level.

  10. Sure beats the sound of gunshots in a city. Those bullets aren’t aimed at ducks. DUCK!
Part of living in this area. Realty.
And yes, it is legal to discharge a firearm as these hunters are.
Every year this time that question is asked. Are you new out here?

    • She has every right to ask this question. There has been a lot of confusion as to whether it okay right on Duck Lake with neighbors so close. Oakland County Sheriff’s said it wasn’t legal. No one asking is new to the area, or for that matter against hunting of any kind. It is however of matter of being a thoughtful or good neighbor.
Guess what, not everyone wants be woke up to gunfire every stinking weekend early morning for months. And I know for a fact this is not often times people who even live on our lake.
I don’t want to hear fireworks, gunfire every fall weekend morning. Some neighbors work nights, have little babies, not to mention look forward to a morning to just sleep in. This isnt exactly property way out in the country, or state land, away from homes so close. This is a damn neighborhood. Why do they only have rights?

      • If you have a problem that they are within 450 feet of your home, Call the DNR. They will write the correct ticket. The Oakland county sheriff can not write game law tickets.

        • Sounds like you’ve had some experience with this.
And have no respect for your neighbors. I guess that’s the way things are these days.
          The heck with everyone else!

          • I just wanted to state the law. I read the law before I go hunting. Sorry if you are not willing to respect the law. You must be one of those that run yellow and red lights because your time is more important than hurting others. Oh, my comment told my neighbors to call the DNR if they feel threatened. what did your comment do for your neighbors? Nothing.

            • At least try to make a point that pertains to the conversation at hand. Red and yellow lights? Come on.
Look, the point is why do you not care about your neighbors nearby. Basically it’s like someone lighting off fire works every weekend morning. It’s a type of disturbing the peace. And you know your inviting all your buddies over to join in.

              • It is still the law. That’s the point. Sorry that you don’t want to follow the law. But that is your choice.
I will not waste my time responding to you on this subject any longer.

                • Asking neighbors to make the noise a little later than 7AM. I like it.

                • Well, I just want to say I am and always have been following the law. Wanda’s original comment was really just about using some common curtesy towards your neighbors. We will still say welcome to the neighborhood. It’s been a peaceful community for over 30 yrs. we’ve been here. With great neighbors, hope you enjoy it too.
