  1. Is there a set date for the bubblers to be turned off for the winter? They are preventing the lake from freezing uniformly. Will this create a liability for the association if someone falls through the thinner ice? None of us want anyone to get hurt.

    • Thank you so much for your question. By law the bubblers have to be off no later than Nov. 30th. We currently are in line to have Ever Blue come and turn the pumps off and winterize the generators, However, due to the inclement weather they have been pushed back and no firm date has been set. I am confident it will be before the 30th though.
I know that this abnormally cold weather has everyone’s attention. We did just break a 100 year old record for the coldest night. Historically though, the ice is normally not safe enough to go on before mid December. With a slight warm up predicted for next week, I am guessing we will see a lot of the ice disappear, and when the bubblers are turned off in the next few days the lake will have the chance to freeze back in a uniformed pattern. I thank you for your patience and I look forward to seeing everyone enjoying their favorite winter lake activities soon.

  2. I live on the canal that is bordered by Chanda Ct. and Araby Ct. We never had a problem with Water Lillies until this summer with the start of the bubblers. It is getting worse by the day. I was told to contact you to have someone take care of them. They are beginning to spread to the middle of the canal. Thank you for your concern.

    • Thank you very much for taking care of the water lillies in the canal at my lakefront. I really appreciate it.

    • We have lived on middle Duck for over 20 years and watch the bubblers doing their job daily. This year, for the first time, we have lilly pads appearing between 4408 and 4388 Chevron. Should we be concerned, and can it be remedied?
      Thanks,
      Kathy

      • Lilies spread by stalks with pineapple looking buds floating around til they bottom out and germinate. My opinion, the bubblers are over turning the water twice a day causing more circulation of water like they are supposed to which is probably spreading the lilies around more. Any around my area I either rake them out or just pull out what I can. That way, they can’t seed. Seems to work.

      • We are a little hesitant to do anymore treatments this year because not only is it getting pretty late in the season, but also we are trying to allow the bio-augmentation time to work so it will be a permanent solution. The treatment chemicals will indeed kill the lily pads, but will also kill the good bacteria we are putting in as part of the overall lake health plan. We ask that you please be patient with the treatment plan. If you have a problem that is just intolerable, though, please call the hotline and we will look into treating it.

Changes in the lake are on the right path. Many people have reported new things like you have noticed, but we believe this is good news. No more of the status quo from year to year. This inaugural season for the system has gone well so far and we are looking forward to the fall report on the health of the lake coming soon.

  3. We live on middle Duck, by the Statue of Liberty. We feel that the lake bottom in front of our home is much firmer than in the past years. ie. We assume that the bubblers are working. Great Job to all that have been working so hard.

  4. Does anyone know if there will be fireworks over the Holiday weekend? If so, which day?

    • I heard a few weeks ago from the horses mouth this Saturday. Maybe he can chime in to verify that is still true.

      • Yes, this is confirmed. Rain day on Sunday. Hope to see you all at the Sand Bar social at 1 on Saturday for hotdogs and potluck.

  5. Jeff, thanks again for putting a full load of enzymes in the west side of the narrows.

    • I think it is very nice of all of you to acknowledge that Ever Blue is following through on what was promised and what was paid for. Please note, Jeff and Ever Blue is putting full loads in ALL areas of the lake. To date almost 150,000 gallons of enzymes have been placed in the water with one additional treatment still planned in the fall to get as much impact over the winter as possible. Thank you all for your patience this year as we all got accustomed to the equipment and the crew being a part of Duck Lake.

      Ryan

  6. Thanks to Jeff for getting several of the bubblers back up
    and running this week.

    Bruce

    • Thank you Bruce for letting us know about this. With this much equipment we were bound to identify new and funny problems. Turns out that the power outage caused a few back flow preventers to fail. Jeff was able to identify and fix this. They will now keep an eye out for this.

Let’s chase the sun for as long as we can this 2019 season!

  7. Bubblers are not on in the far northwest part of the lake (by Harvey Lake Rd and White Lake Rd). They are on further south, by the buoys, but at least 2 are not working north of there. They’ve been out since before August 1 so at least 2 weeks. I called the hotline on Aug 1, and again today; is the hotline still monitored?
    Thanks.

    • Hi Beth,

I am so sorry I have not responded sooner. I will reach out directly to you tomorrow to discuss.

      Thanks,
      Ryan

      • No problem Ryan, the question is just if it is better to call the hotline, or better to post here when we see equipment not working. What’s the preferred method? (No callback needed, please just post here so everyone can see, thanks.)
BTW, the bubblers I reported were fixed last week– thanks Jeff!

        • The best way would be to call the hotline. That leaves a message both on the phone as well as in the email system. The more touch points the better. The other thing is that you can leave an address on the phone without being worried with posting it on line. The address helps Jeff and team find your location and diffuser MUCH easier.

I am glad Jeff got you back up and running. Please let me know if you have any other questions, and I hope to maybe see you on the lake this weekend. A lot of fun events taking place!

  9. I want to voice my concern about our area in the narrows across from sand bar . It is the worst spot in the lake and we only have a few bubblers. In the canal there is 12. I feel that a greater concentration is needed in our area. Also I received a few calls about the large tree branch at the entrance to canal and about who is responsible to remove. The owner of the branches needs to step up and remove his mess.

  10. Do you know when the bubblers in the boat launch area of South Bay Shores will be fixed
    Still not working??
