Technically you are not allowed to place any buoys without a permit. It is code 324.80159 Buoys or beacons; permit for placement; application; revocation; removal. With that said, generally people do not mind a buoy in front of their property as long as it does not impeded boat traffic or the general use of the water. However, if you are trying to crate a swim area, or a no wake zone, you would need to apply for it, and then make a case of why it should be there. As any permit application goes, it can be costly and timely.
Ever Blue was a few weeks behind after the “essential lock down”. They needed the lake to warm up and also Aqua Weed to get a spray in first for the weeds. You should see them in the next week or two. Last year they applied 3 applications. This year they will do 3 as well, but will also hit additional areas as needed.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
Thank you for the note and thank you for keeping an eye out for the system. You are correct on both fronts. Ever Blue was able to get the system turned on right before the order to “stay at home” came out. This allowed them to get the compressors running but did not allow enough time for them to go through and check each diffuser plate. Also, during the shut down we have had a few compressors go down causing a few days of those lines being off until we were able to trouble shoot them and get them back up and running.
Ever Blue has committed to, and are looking forward to, going through our full system just as soon as they are allowed. Hopefully this will be sooner than later, but we never can know in this new world. We have new buoys ready to go in place to mark the air lines going into the water to help prevent from accidental prop cuts. Please be aware of these when boating, as we did have a few line cuts last year as the system was new. I know it doesn’t seem like it, as a lot of us have put our boats in much earlier to help us escape the walls of our houses, but it is still early. We have not had to delay any weed treatments, or bio-blasts do to the shutdown. We did have to take a pass on goose control this year. This is always done during the second and last week of April. Due to the denial of motor boats, Goose Buster was unable to come out to help with this. While it is not the best news, we will make sure to circle back next year and pick up where we left off.
Please know that if you, or anyone else has questions for the DLPOA while we are not having our monthly meetings, please feel free to ask here. We try to do our best to keep up on this page, so we hope to be able to turn them around quickly.
I hope everyone is staying safe and I look forward to seeing you all this summer, even if it is 6 ft. away.
Hello all, a SUP drifted past my house in the extreme northwest part of the lake today. It could only have come from a house on White Lake Rd, and it looks like it wound up by the boat launch off of Craven/Bay Ridge.
Well according to our governor we are not allowed to use motorized boats or jet skis till further notice. Maybe May 1st but not for sure. Hope everyone is healthy. We will persevere.
Oakland county only has 2 DNR officers so I am sure they won’t be watching Duck Lake. All boat launches are private so they can’t get on the lake unless someone gives them the key. She can’t stop me from going in my backyard and my backyard is the lake. Well, actually I consider it my front yard.
The latest executive order does not state that motorboating is not allowed. In the FAQs for the latest order, a question is asked whether “outdoor activity” includes motorboating. The response takes the very narrow point of view that since our governor did not explicitly allow it, that activity is by default not allowed. I would speculate that a family from the same residence could maintain the required social distancing from neighbors or other boaters on a pontoon just as easily as at a kitchen table.
Jason Say is no longer our lake level engineer it is Ryan Woloszyk, P.E. And he is suggesting that we contact Chris Gianakos who actually oversees the techs that adjust our boards and run the pump. His number is 248-858-1105. There you have it. BUT, the DLPOA would much prefer that you channel your concerns either through me or Ryan Charlton. My email is cj7ole@comcast.net. Please email me or call the hotline (248.382.8870) with your lake level concerns. Not sure how much more can be said than what was recently posted. The lake level should be coming up and if all goes to plan it will be near summer lake levels in a few weeks.
And frankly, we give a bit more credence to those who post their names than those that hide behind a cloak of anonymity. Are they really Duck lake residents?
If I had not requested this contact information, we all would have the understanding that Jason Say was the guy to contact, albeit no contact information, per Karl Reel’s post.
As far as giving less credence to people who wish to remain anonymous, any elected official or public volunteer ought not judge before they enact their civic duty and answer questions with correct information, and in a timely fashion.
When I speak to ask questions at our meetings, I give a bogus name, address. Why should anyone care? We all are just trying to reach the same end, which is the best Duck Lake can be made!
How else do we know that Anonymous is even a Duck Lake resident or has legal access to the lake? Could be somebody messing with us. That was my point. That being said, I have accidentally posted before adding my email in the signature and it came out as anonymous, and you can’t go back and edit it. Wish we had a delete/edit button.
Good morning – we live in Zone 1 – close to White Lake Rd. I see some of the bubblers going – but they are far from us. I have asked this before, but did not receive an answer – are more aerators going to be installed? It looks nothing like the diagram that was laid out showing where the aerators would be placed. I understand there are hoses, but I don’t think those are close to us either.
Or, should I pose these questions to Lake Savers? Could someone pass along their phone number?
Thanks.
The bubblers in the lake are set up to provide the best impact to the whole lake. The diagram that was proposed was a rough estimate of where they would be placed as an example. It is not an exact map. Also, the DEQ required us to change that diagram as well in order to receive the permit. Please note however, that the bubblers do not need to be directly in sight on within any amount of feet to have an impact. The bubblers are in the lake to provide oxygen to all of the water throughout all of the lake. This is all done with the purpose to maximize results. Also, the system is a living thing. It will be adjusted and monitored as the years go on, to again, maximize the best output for the whole lake. According to the tests results that Restorative Lakes Science conducted, and will continue to do for the next four years, the lake is successfully saturated at all points with the desired amount of oxygen. The natural enzymes, as well as the bio augmentation enzymes that are applied, now have the perfect environment to decompose the muck. Unfortunately, this is a long term solution and it will take time to get to our desired destination. However, please note that it IS happening as noted from the tests Jennifer has conducted. If you scroll down you will see that I have highlighted the summery from that report in another post. It has a lot of good facts about the good things that we saw after only one year. I am confident that you will see these in your area as well, even with the bubblers further out.
Please let me know if I can answer any other questions, and I hope to see you on the lake soon,
Hi Ryan, so do you foresee that there could be bubblers closer to our section at some point? (I’m Monika’s husband). Looking at the placement of the bubblers right now, it’s hard to fathom that they would have any effect closer to our house, as the muck and weeds are horrendous right now (which you probably already know.) just trying to get a real determination of what we can expect. I know the original plans showed more bubblers in our section (understanding that those were preliminary plans only) and I’m wondering if they looked at the actual state of the area and decided they wouldn’t do much good installed there? (Hoping not.) We just want enough eliminated so that we can get our boat out on the lake without it being a major workout using poles and parr’s to push through. Doug
Thanks. Anonymous is here, to help get and keep this/any information out here so nobody’s blood pressure raises.
Please post the WRC contact information, for future reference, in case things go awry, as in years past.
Thanks!
As the weather warms and before the lake raises!! Please get out and clean the shoreline. Winds are blowing lots of junk into are treasured lake Howard Zimmerman
Several officers and representatives of your lake board have been in contact with Oakland County in the last week over this issue. No reason to flood them with calls. Their response is that they have been out and put a few boards in the dam to slowly bring it up to level by mid April. This is how they have always tried to do it. It is done that way to allow folks to work on their shoreline in the spring while the water level is low, and to allow storage in the lake to accommodate spring rains without flooding the lake.
And when you comment, please remember to fill in your email and name before you hit the Post Comment button, otherwise you show up as Anonymous. And frankly we are all neighbors, so there is no reason for that.

It doesn’t seem like all of the diffusers in little duck are working. Was the whole lake turned on? Curious on the status of the whole system. Thanks.

Beth, do you mean a PFD, personal floatation device?
An SUV is a sport utility vehicle.

Stand Up Paddleboard

Yep confirmed, a standup paddleboard is the thing that drifted. (“SUP” was not a typo, but fair question to ask!)

Duck Lake has risen 3.5″ between 3/27 and 4/3. Just 2″ to go to make the legal summer level. On track.
