Thank you for the USCGA Vessel Safety Checks this morning – it was a well organized event and helped us get ready for the boating season ahead. Much appreciated! – Stephanie
The weeds this year have come up quick. The mild winter and 20 degree water temp increase over the past few weeks has made them sprout quite quickly. Aquaweed has surveyed the entire lake and will be posting signs this Friday, June 3rd and spraying Monday, June 6th. Be sure to follow the signs and not use the water for the recommended period to ensure the effectiveness of the product. Thanks.
Two or three years ago the DLPOA installed a solar red flashing LED light on the buoy at the opening to the Ramada canal. The thought is that it would help guide the late evening cruisers back home as well as keep the buoys from getting hit in the dark. It was done as a test, but to my knowledge no feedback was ever solicited. The cost was about $120. If there is interest in lighting other buoys that enter canals (not swim area buoys), I would be happy to bring it before the board.
Good. I suggest then that we put a quick item on the agenda for a discussion and decision about lighting critical navigation buoys. Also an item to decide whether or not to pursue the permit to finish the dredging of the shallow area by the point between little and middle Duck.
Just FYI, the weeds this year are coming up quick because of the mild winter and lack of ice cover. Aquaweed is coming back Tuesday to survey and spray again. He didn’t want to do any this past week because it may have interrupted holiday plans for some.
Then try my shoreline also. Lilly pads along the docks, and underwater weeds. Yes numerous ones.
My address is 4428 Chevron but the entire shoreline has this problem. I am about to try my own weed control for me and my neighbors lake front.
Hi Anon – we have noted your request and will reach out to the weed control company. Please do not attempt to chemically treat these on your own. If you’d like to provide more info and be notified about the resolution, please send an email to contact@ducklakepoa.com.
Put my pontoon in today and couldn’t help but notice all the lake weed beds and how big they were. Wish I could have attended the May 18th meeting but could not. Any info, and if so where can I find it in the news letter? Thank You Jerry Knurick.
I feel your pain Gerald. I cant fish off my dock anymore without catching weeds every other cast. I’d really like to see some weed harvesting and dredging but the expense is the big barrier. For the record: I’d be willing to pay my fair share and a little more.
Our president, Ryan Charlton, is looking into “aerating the muck ” if I understood that right. If we’re able to get rid of some of the muck on the lake, maybe the bottom wouldn’t be so fertile for weeds. I’d also be willing to pay for an expert to evaluate the lake to determine the best action plan if that’s a possibility. I know it’s the natural aging process of the lake but if we don’t want our property values to drop, I think we should spend more time on this subject. I’d appreciate anyone with more knowledge on weed harvesting or dredging to chime in. Thanks for reading my rant.
I would suggest that you consider two revisions of this web site. 1) post the meeting agenda prior to each month’s meeting so we can determine if we want to attend. 2) start to clean out some of the older comments or put them on a separate “deeper folder” so we are not looking at stuff from 6 or 9 months ago.
Thanks for the ideas. I’ve set up the comments to be broken up by pages with 10 main topics per page. This should help with the scrolling, but still give everyone access to all comments.
In regards to posting the agenda, it is certainly something we’ve discussed doing. Candidly, we’ve found it challenging to find time to coordinate this along with all our other responsibilities. Each officer is working on their respective initiatives, and there’s time that spent by each of us preparing our updates for the meeting and posting the information following the meetings. While we certainly will do this for the 2 main meetings in May and October, I hesitate to make that commitment on a monthly basis because I can’t guarantee we can all find time to do that each month.
That said, in the meeting minutes we have attempted to capture topics proposed for the next meeting (if applicable), and the format for the meeting has been set in order to help maintain consistency. The flow of the meetings will always involve an update from each officer, committee updates, discussion of topics proposed from the previous meeting, then open floor.
Additionally, if there will be a topic which will involve a vote, one which an officer feels is important, or something which has been raised by popular demand, we will post an announcement on the site. If you’re subscribed you can get this via email as well. I hope this is a satisfactory commitment.
Hi Again – Please disregard my previous note. This month’s meeting will be cancelled due to conflicts of multiple officers and board members and limited topics.

Ole,
I think this would be a great idea top bring up. I live off the same canal and love the light. It is a great and smart addition to the buoys.

No need, I trust you to do all you can for we lake front owners.

I think you are all doing a great job. I was able to motor around the homes in the canal next to the animal zoo. I couldn’t do this in past years.

I completely agree!! Something must be done. Like I’ve said before who doesn’t want a cleaner/safer lake. We all need to work together.

Hi Gerard,
Please send an email to contact@ducklakepoa.org with the area(s) you’re seeing weed control issues, so we can request targeted treatment, if possible.
Thanks,
Leslie
