  1. I have not seen any enzyme treatments this year. Are they still being done? Thank you.

  2. Somebody did a RAIN dance!!!

  3. Saturday while going down the canal in Axford Acres off of little Duck, came across a gigantic turtle eating a full size duck. Not sure if it caught the duck alive or the duck was already dead before it got to it but the duck was bobbing up and down while the turtle was working on the head part under water. Saw the turtle head briefly, was about the size of my fist. Scary if they can take down a large duck alive because that makes small dogs possible victims or heck, appendages on humans too.

    • Reminds me of the time when l was a youngster, in the early 70’s. l caught a huge bass, 20″ or so. We didn’t weigh them back then. I parked my rowboat on the shore just inside the first bridge canal and was fishing the then, homeless shoreline. My large bass was in the water attached to a stringer to the boat.
I came back to the boat after fishing for a half hour or so, to see my stringer smacking repeatedly against the side of the rowboat. I picked the stringer up to lift up my huge bass that l had caught. The only thing left was the head of the bass, with a huge snapping turtle still chowing on what was left of the bass.
Wow….. l forgot that story for decades until l just read your story.
Nature is awesome. Us humans are part of nature. As spectators. Enjoy the show.

  4. I just moved to 3171 highland blvd last spring. Am I supposed to pay any dues?

    • Hi Barb, most DLPOA expenses are covered by a special assessment district (SAD) which is collected via winter taxes. Some strictly association expenses (in the eyes of the Duck Lake Improvement Board) are covered by donations, key fees and estoppel letter collections.

  5. Hello members this is a reminder that we will have our regularly scheduled 3rd Wednesday of the month board meeting this Wednesday 7/20 at 7:30 pm @ Axford Acres Beach. Please bring a chair and join us!

  6. Give everyone else on the lake a break! Motion detecting lights. Simple.

  7. “All sports lake”. Learn to enjoy it or buy on “no motor lake”

    • Just because we put up with wake boats and jet skis with loud pipes doesn’t mean we have to enjoy them. Been on this lake long before either of them were present.

      • Wonder if some of the annoying bright lights on a home or two on the lake, which totally ruin the night time tranquil setting, as well as star gazing opportunities, can be addressed without embarrassing the homeowner? Any ideas? Is asking for simple consideration for neighbors and situational awareness too much to ask?If you embrace the “city light” scenario, move back to the city.People locking/unlocking their cars with the key fob so the horn alerts the neighbors at alll hours of the day is also most annoying, yet easily remidied.

        • Lights are annoying, but more annoying is the punks that steal stuff around your house. So keeping lights on is the lesser of 2 evils.

          • You are selfish and do not care what we on the other side of small Duck are forced to look at, every single night of every single day of the year…. a used car lot in the city at night time, minus the cars. We moved out here to escape that scene. You bring that scene with you. You want the bright lights, move back to the city.
I agree, motion detector lights, or Ring camera system will satisfy your need for security, thwart any punks who are out to steal under the cover of darkness and 99% of the lake residents can enjoy the tranquil, dark setting that is, actually, a blessing for all who loathe the city life.
            A win/win/win.

            • Highland Township is a Dark Sky Compliant community and has ordinances that pertain to residential lighting. You may want to check with the Township and ask them if the restrictions under Sec. 13.11. “Residential and agricultural light” pertain to your situation.

              • If lights are aggravating you, just simply talk to whom ever has the said lights that are making you upset. Or leave a note for them. Seems like logical thing to do. Easy peasy.

              • I know certain areas of duck lake are having issues with thugs, and our Association encourages homeowners to keep lights on at night if they can. The more it’s lit up the better to deter the kids. So I don’t think the lights are going away anytime soon.

                • A wise person once said: “Lights do thwart crime. There is no doubt. An option to a dozen bright flood lights shining continually is to install motion detector lights. These will provide the homeowner with the security needed, the thieving punks with one less opportunity, and the neighbors with the tranquil setting they are entitled to. And harmony for all.”Just a matter for this homeowner to step up to the cutting edge technology available for the past 40 years. Think Green. Those lights are helping heat up the planet. More electricity needed to be produced. Quit being as dense as lump of coal.

  8. Is it possible to have the wake-boats use only Little Duck since there numerous of studies showing the damage they do eroding the shoreline and lake bottoms. A few lakes are banning them and grandfathering in current owners. I would think this could only help Flynn Road.

    • Little duck isn’t deep enough for wakeboats unfortunately.

    • Wake boats do less bottom damage in deeper waters. I read best wakes in water 12′ or deeper.

    • How about ban them everywhere! They are the biggest nuisance on the lake.

    • Boaters are responsible for the wake they make. It is no different than a car pulling a trailer. If injury or damage is caused by another boats wake you could call the sheriff and file a report.

      • Hello Anonymous,

I am assuming you are talking about canals. I agree 100%. State law sates that anything close to 100 feet of shore is no wake, so that has to be what you meant. Every pontoon, wake boat, jet ski, fishing boat, or electric paddle boat that causes a wake should be arrested and fined. Take their boat and their house! NO WAKE DUCK LAKE! Slogan sounds great! Imagine a lake with no need for sea walls. We can all plant wake absorbing cattails and observe the lake lake the way mother nature intended it to be on this partial man made lake. Then we could all wait for the horrible sound humans make as they are truly the greatest nuisance on this lake! OR, we could accept that all people use the lake different. If you are lucky enough to be able to see wake boats making wakes on the daily, then you are pretty lucky.

        Signed Anonymous (this is fun)

        • I think you misinterpreted what I was trying to say.

Section 324.80158 of Public Act 451 of 1994 holds that “the owner of any vessel operated upon the waters of this state is personally responsible for any damage to life or property resulting from a wake or swell created by the negligent operation or propulsion of the vessel, if the vessel is being operated with his or her consent.”

Has nothing to do with making a no wake lake. I wouldn’t want it to be. If there is a problem and someone recklessly drives their boat and damages your property you have recourse

  9. Is there a way to have a No Wake zone established in the bay area on the East side of Flynn Dr? That is the road that leads to the island in the middle of the lake. The road is very old with no Sea wall to protect it. The boat/pwc traffic is causing the road to deteriorate quicker every year and we are loosing valuable road width. Consumers Gas has been out and they are concerned about the gas line that was under the road is now exposed and they are trying to determine a fix. We were feeling a No Wake area around this area could help slow the erosion. Please let us know how we might accomplish this…..Thank you

    • Not really. No wake zones aren’t really established per se. They exist because of rules stipulating where one must not exceed no wake speeds. The no wake buoys do not create a no wake zone, they remind us that we are in/approaching one.

      • Then how could we go about stipulating that this should be a no wake zone? We already have several estimates in the Hundreds of Thousands to repair the road in it’s current condition and the wakes are eroding it more every day.

        • Flynn is a private road only serving the residents that live on that road. As such you likely have easement rights to that road, making all of the residents on Flynn pseudo road owners. So who else would be responsible for maintenance other than those that use the road? Sounds like you need to talk to the township about establishing a special assessment district to pay for the repairs. To eliminate any wake erosion, you would need to declare most of big Duck a no wake zone, and you would need to ask mother nature to cooperate also. The first is as unlikely to happen as the last.

    • This is the responsibility of the home owners to build seawalls like everyone else. This is the risk when you buy property.

    • I can’t believe your solution is to just move the problem to someone else! This is what’s wrong with the world today. It’s all about me.

  10. Hi Duck Lake peeps! Anyone know where the ‘Shallow Area’ buoy from the narrows is? Thinking someone helped us out last year and removed it in the fall. It is buoy number 29. Contact Mike Ricard if you know where it might be.
