  1. I was wondering why the buoy in middle Duck, which marks the ski course I was told, did not get a light on top like some of the other buoys? If any should get one it should be that one. Is there really a submersed course? In my ten years I have never seen it.

    • Hi Danny, the ski course buoy will be lit as well. We have a new buoy and are waiting on a “SKI COURSE” wrapper for it. And yes, there is a ski course submersed there. The folks pump it up when they use it (usually during the early morning), then drop it back underwater when they’re done.

  2. I hope the a–hole that drove their pontoon boat into the side of my docked pontoon boat, damaging my 2 year old boat and bending the h–l out of my dock dies a painful slow death from cancer.
Of course, the jack–s wasn’t man enough to contact me and offer to pay for his stupidity.

    • Understand the frustration, but the cancer comment is a little over the top IMO. You might want to report it to the Sheriff and do a loop around the lake looking for a pontoon with front damage.

  3. A couple of days ago, I saw a sheriff escorting a boater back to his dock. After a long summer without law enforcement, why the week before Memorial Day? Can anyone reply to this?

    • Correction to previous comment. I meant Labor Day

      • Hi Kerry,

The sheriff was called onto the lake by a resident in response to some jet skiers behaving recklessly. Any resident may request assistance from the sheriff because the waters of duck lake are public and within the sheriffs jurisdiction if given access by a resident. Once on the lake, the sheriff can address any and all water violations as he sees fit. We encourage residents who observe dangerous or reckless behavior on the water to call the sheriff rather than the POA because only the sheriff has the authority to address the situation.

        Thanks,

  4. In addition to the safety recommendations found under the “Boating Safety” section under the “Duck Lake Resources” tab, many other safety questions can be answered if you browse through the nicely illustrated MDNR “Handbook of Michigan Boating Laws and Responsibilities”. https://www.boat-ed.com/assets/pdf/handbook/mi_handbook_entire.pdf

In addition please keep in mind that boats, pontoons and PWCs cruising the lake, as well as those towing tubers, skiers and wake boarders should circle the lake counterclockwise, keeping the shore on the right side of the boat. In doing so the perimeter of the lake becomes a moving traffic zone, so it would be prudent to keep to the middle of the lake so as not to block that busy traffic area if you wish to anchor and swim or otherwise quietly enjoy the lake.

  5. I saw what looked like a beaver swimming in the lake this morning. Is it possible that we have beavers in the lake?

    • Most likely a muskrat. Beavers prefer something to dam up, we don’t have that. If you see a beaver lodge, then, yes, it could be a beaver.

      • I saw a beaver in the lake as well. Definitely a beaver and not a muskrat – bigger body, pronounced ears and the majority of the body was out of the water. I pulled out my binoculars to make the identification. That was probably the same day you saw him or very close to that date. It was around 6am as I remember, which is unusual as beavers tend to be nocturnal creatures.. I haven’t seen him since. I live very close to the Chevron bridge.

  6. Lost and found: We found a bimini top cover in the lake this afternoon. It is black with a white double Nike swoosh looking logo on it. A tag inside says it’s for a Lexington. Png me at the DLPOA email address to claim it

  7. The lake level is definitely much lower than it has been over the last five years (with the exception being last year when the pump broke). We have an extra 1.5′ of beach that we’ve never had. Concerned something is wrong with the pump.

  8. The lake level seems very low. Is there
anyway the lake level can be posted on the website weekly?

    • We also noticed this. Is the new water pump working?

    • Water level less than 2 inches below normal summer legal level today. I have an accurate staff gauge on my dock. Someone did say they saw the County working on the pump recently. Years ago it wasn’t unusual for the lake to be as much as 8 inches below legal by mid August. The year before the pump was put in (early 1960’s) it was something like 40 inches below normal.

  9. I agree. On the narrows, I believe we need to finish the dredging project we started 10 years ago when the seawall was built. We have a permit application already. The project would go about 120 feet out from the wall and be about 140 feet wide, removing 550 cubic yards of bottom material, to a depth of 3.5 feet below the legal lake level. Bottom on either side of the peninsula’s wall would not be disturbed and would leave an area to raft, unofficially. I believe there is plenty of money in the account to do that, money that was originally programmed for dredging, if I am not mistaken. Result is rafting which further chokes the narrows would be discouraged and boats would no longer get stuck on the shallow bottom off the point.

    • I think there are other areas that need attention. the” sandbar” area is great for families with young children that can’t go
to Big duck. Why not focus on making our lake cleaner and not about trying to dredge an area so families can’t enjoy hanging out .

  10. Two things to rant about…please don’t throw cigarette butts in the lake. The lake is not an ash tray or a garbage can. Saw this happen a bunch of times today. I think if you somehow managed to take them out there, you can take them back home and dispose of them properly.

Also, perhaps instead of making the narrows even more narrow with all the boats parked at the sandbar, maybe park on the sides of the peninsula and walk to the front. Trying to pull a tube through there is tough when it is busy. When the boats are four or five deep like today, it’s pretty dangerous.

    Thanks!
