  1. Sorry the message below is from wanda allers not sure why it didn’t show up that way

  2. Our bubblers have been off on white lake rd since November 1st but I noticed the one over by the well in the canal is still on. Is there a reason for that. Just curious

  3. Below was Ray Nowicki.

  4. Did the county start lowering the lake level? If not, does the board know when they will take a board out of the dam to start lowering the water level?

    • Asked by Ray Nowicki

      • The WRC doesn’t advise when they are pulling or adding boards at the dam. That said, the water level is dropping precipitously so we assume the WRC is now pulling the lake down to winter levels. A trip to the dam is required to confirm the status.

  5. Lake-front owners must refrain from feeding the swans and ducks.
E-coli contamination is a possibility because of that behavior. The Oakland County Health Dept. cautions against feeding them.
In the evening, after their evening meal, they roost on our beach and dock and create a disgusting mess.

    • Canadian geese are the biggest culprit. They like to come out of the water more then ducks and swans and they make the huge messes. they are going to eat whether some one feeds them or they do it on their own. Need to focus on their nest removal in the Spring.

      • Yes. That is absolutely true, but b/c we have the Swan Family being fed, the geese do not come around our sand beach .
The ducks, however do get along w/swans and they, also, leave gross amounts of fecal matter daily. And I’d like our small grandkids to be able to play in the sand and swim in front of our own cottage.

        • I put a couple of rocks on our dock and the swans and ducks stay away.

          • Rocks and owls and waving pieces of plastic on ropes have not worked. Unfortunately, it has become their favorite place to come after feeding.
Other suggestions from anyone that has been successful?
            Can DNR offer any help?

            • You do realize when waterfowl aren’t pooping on shore, they’re pooping in the same water your grandchildren are swimming in. It all goes along with lake life.

              • Amen sister. Or brother. Amen. What’s the deal with that one house in small Duck and that one cottage in big Duck that have those obnoxious, bright lights on throughout the night? Every night? You can tell who the transplants are who just can’t embrace the awesomeness of a natural setting. Seems they just have to insist on bringing part of the city with them. Actually kind of inconsiderate of every other lake resident who abhor much to do about the city life we luckily were able to escape.Three words: motion detector lights. Only on when motion is detected. For security. Any other times the lights are remaining on is purely inconsiderate of your neighbors, both near and far.

  6. I hope people refrain from making big waves this weekend. with the water so high any kind of waves will cause problems for boats, docks, shorelines, etc.

    • Thank you 😊

      • Thank you for mentioning this as the water is already at the top of my seawall without any waves. If we get any waves coming in, it will be pushing my Pontoon into the yard causing significant damage to both. Please let everyone you know to be very respectful of the DL residents.

  7. Please be considerate and thoughtful with our north canals, islands and wetlands bay on Duck Lake. Many types of wildlife live and flourish back there, and it functions as a filter area for our lake. Someone placed a huge memorial sign back there today- nice thought, but not really an appropriate location…

    • Appreciate the valid observation.
Steps will be taken to rectify this situation within the next couple of days.
You are correct in stating nature and wildlife ought to come first.
We on the Zoo Committee do agree we are blessed to have this undeveloped and natural area as part of Duck Lake. So unique. Even without the zoo.

      • Would it be possible to leave it up for a few weeks so those of us that knew Brian could pay our respects?

        • Absolutely! The memorial will be reduced in height and possibly placed elsewhere.
The memorial will be a permanent part of our celebration of life we all enjoy as we trek through the Zoo.
It was placed where it presently is to achieve the “good” shock value when it is first observed when making the turn out of the first zoo canal.
Am very touched by all the genuine and warm comments regarding the crafting of Brian’s memorial.
This is for everyone. Especially for his family and friends.
