  1. Are there any new updates regarding the well repair including potential timing? Also, has there been any potential well sites located for a new well at this time?

Thanks for all of your hard work and efforts and we look forward to the new muck remediation system.

    • Well update: We are working with Oakland County and their large well contractor, Peerless-Midwest. We have determined that the best and most cost effective option is to drill a new well about 10 feet from the old well and reuse the pump and motor from the old well. MDEQ will allow us to tap both the upper and lower confined aquifers in the manner of the old well. This should give us the same well capacity as we are accustomed to. It looks like the project cost will be in the $150,000 range, but that number will be fine tuned by the county as they add up all of the various costs. The driller is ready to install the new well this spring, however the county is looking at financing options which could take us into early summer.

  2. A couple of questions on the aeration system: Will it run year-round, or just in the summer months? Also, how is damage from boat anchoring avoided?

    Thank you.

    • It will only run from April until November. It can’t run in the winter or it would thin the ice.

If by chance you hook a line with your anchor, simply drop it back down into the lake. If damage to the line or plate occur, just call or email the hotline and we will let Lake Savers know. They will fix it.

  3. Compressor locations look good, keep up the good work.

  4. Hello
Regarding the position of the Large Lake Aeration Diffuser in Zone 4, site seven in the canal —-are those under water or above water and exposed?
Also wondering if they can be put on the park side and not home side?

    Thank you
    Diana

    • All of the diffusers will be underwater. If you are referring to those in the canal leading to the south drain, we can make a note of your request but generally in an area like this, they will work more efficiently in the center of the canal. They will be down on the bottom and even buried in the muck slightly if you are worried about hitting them.

      • Hello Matthew
Thank you for the response on the diffusers will be under water and glad to hear that, but shocked that they will be able to put them under water It is a shallow canal. Since not exposed and above water position is not a problem and should be put in the center spot to remove the muck.
        Thank you

  5. Good job! Keep up the good work!

  6. Are there any updates on the location of the aeration compressor locations?

    • Hi Matt,

The final layout for the system and the compressor locations can be seen under the “Duck lake resources” tab and then click on the “water quality” tab on this site. You will see the lake savors proposal as well as the final layout. Click on the final layout link and it will show you where the locations have been secured. Please let me know if you cannot not find it.

      Thanks!

      • Thanks for the update. The lake board is doing an awesome job. Really appreciate the efforts that have been put in.

      • Hi Ryan,
I just saw the final layout of the compressors. Is the compressor for site 4 on the east side of Flynn or is it going to be on that small beach area on the opposite side of Flynn Rd? The map looks like it is on the east of Flynn Rd just want to clarify.
        Thanks

  7. Do we have a start date for the lake saver system install? Thanks

    • Hi Jenna,

The muck committee has been continuing their monthly meetings and checking off all the boxes to keep us on track to start the system installation April 1st. That day is the first day Lake-Savers is allowed to start per the DEQ regulations. The plan is to have all of the equipment in place by the end of April. We will have all of the paperwork completed and ready to be sent in next week for the DEQ permits. This process can take up to 90 days to approve, but we are optimistic it will be quicker than that. Either way, we will still have ample time to hit our April 1st target.

  8. This morning my wife and I found a huge piece of floating debris in the lake in front of our house. It was old and rusty and probably a piece of someone’s dock. It was at least 5 ft by 5 ft square with very sharp edges. Any way, we decided it was very dangerous and and should be taken out of the lake. With help from Tim and his helper from TPC lawn service we were able to get it out of the lake and Tim put it on his truck for disposal. Turns out that this piece of debris has been floating in the lake for weeks with everyone just letting it float on to become someone else’s problem. We want to thank Tim from TPC for his willingness to help, and to remind everyone that keeping the lake clean and safe is everyone’s responsibility. Please do not let someone get hurt because you ignored a problem.

    • thank you and thanks to the guys from TPC. Thanks for the reminder and for taking care of the problem!

    • How do you know it has been in the water for weeks? How do you know people saw it and ignored it? You didn’t see it for weeks. No body is on the lake any more to see it floating or let alone get out in the middle of the lake to get it if they did. Yes, thanks for removing it but don’t lecture everyone like you know everyone saw it and ignored it.

  9. Hello,
Are there any updates on the well (using the old one and fixing it or are we getting a new one) and a time frame to have it up and running?

    Thank you
    Diana

    • We finally received the report from the well driller and as suspected it does not look good. With that report and video we now can obtain a second opinion, hopefully within a week. I am hoping we can formulate a plan of action with the county WRC within 30 days and report back.

      • Thank you for the reply.
Since been awhile getting the report back has WRC formulated a plan of action?

Thanks for working on this for Duck Lake homeowners.
        Diana

        • The good news is that the other driller with more experience with large wells believes that we will be able to salvage only one or the other of the two screens in the well, leaving us with approximately half of the capacity we had before the failure (my estimate). Cost would much less than a new well but still substantial. Repair likely by early summer. A new well would likely not be ready by next summer due to permitting and bidding and financing constraints. We are working on the details.

  10. Does anyone know if we will receive a separate bill for the first December payment on the water aeration or will it be added on our tax bill? When will this first installment request be sent out?

    • It will be included in the lake assessment part of our winter tax bill. There was always a lake assessment charge on the bill. This will now include the aeration.
